City areas
City of art and history, Rouen has plenty to allure its tourists with in all its areas. From an administrative point of view, the city is divided into 14 quarters, which can be simpler considered as six bigger districts.
Interest areas
- Historic centre
Features: In the centre of the Place du Vieux Marché is the modern church of Saint Joan of Arc. This is a large, modern structure which dominates the square. The form of the building represents the pyre on which Joan of Arc was burnt.
- Rue de la République
Features: It is one of the main axes of Rouen’s centre.
Highlights: Napoleon’s statue, the City Hall gardens, rue du Petit-Mouton with one of the oldest houses in the city, the ruins of Saint-Amand abbey
- Pasteur
Features: Situated in the west part of the city, this is where tradition and modernity entwine.
Highlights: the former Hôtel Dieu hospital, many small traditional shops, Luciline business district, intense maritime activity
