Transportation
Rouen’s city center is compact and all sights can easily be seen by foot. There are city buses as well as a light rail line.
By plane
Rouen Airport (IATA: URO) is located 10 km south-east of Rouen, in Boos.
- Also, it is only 1 hour from Paris via the A13 or A14 motorways.
- The parking area has 300 completely-free parking spaces, where you can leave your car safely for several days.
- All flights are operated by Air France via Lyon.
By train
- Several trains depart from the St Lazare Station in Paris for Rouen on a daily basis. Tickets cost around 20€ and can be purchased at the station immediately beforehand.
- Gare de Rouen Rue Verte (on Rive-Droite as it is its official name) is a large station on Rue Verte in the north of the city.
- Services are mainly intercity but many services are local. There are also TGV from Le Havre to Marseille.
By car
- From Paris, Rouen is approximately an hour and a half’s drive (135 km) north-west from the centre of the French capital, the fastest route including the A13 motorway (toll-road). An alternative route would include the N14 slightly further to the north.
- From the Channel port city of Dieppe, Rouen is approximately an hour’s drive (66 km) south along the N27.
- From the French end of the Eurotunnel, Rouen is approximately a 2 hour drive (208 km) using the E402.
- From other major centers in Normandy, Rouen is respectively 90 km (1 hr 10 mins) from Le Havre, 128 km (1 hr 25 mins) from Caen, 156 km (1 hr 45 mins) from Bayeux and 249 km (2 hr 45 mins) from Cherbourg.
Getting around
By tram
- The new tramway (Metrobus) operates since 1994 on one line with two southern branches to Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray and Grand-Quevilly. Three years later, in 1997, the tramway was extended to the Université du Madrillet.
- The network runs underground in the city-centre and the remainder on the road surface and reserved track. There are 31 stops and the opening hours are from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., the frequency of service being every 6 minutes during peak hour and 20 minutes off peak.
